In 2022, Ford demonstrated its long-term commitment to LGBTQ+ allyship with its ‘Driving out Discrimination’ campaign.

Redefining Tough (2022)

The film, created to tease the appearance of the Next-Gen Ranger Raptor at Goodwood, shows two vehicles speeding through off-road trails covered in mud – at times taking different paths, facing off, yet displaying their equally impressive and tough abilities, regardless of their differing identities.

The campaign also features ‘Tough Talks’, a new series exploring how the automotive industry, and places beyond, can foster a culture of inclusion and allyship for the LGBTQ+ community.

Ford Presents TOUGH TALKS (2022)

The first episode, hosted by Welsh sporting legend and first openly gay rugby union professional Gareth Thomas, introduces the series and discusses the specific LGBTQ+ issues faced in the automotive industry. He’s joined initially by Ed Rogers, a Ford employee in the UK who is chair of Ford Pride – Ford’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group – and founder and chair of Driving Pride, a cross-automotive group dedicated to driving out discrimination in the industry.

‘Very Gay Raptor’ was born in response to a negative comment on social media, with Ford rendering its most badass nameplate in sparkling gold adorned with rainbow graphics.

The positive response online was so overwhelming the manufacturer decided to make it real, and has been using it as a tool to help drive out discrimination ever since.

The campaign was recognized with a Gold Lion for Media at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2022.
